Saturday 12th September 2015 10.00 am
On Saturday 12th September we are planning to walk the Parish Boundary again. The aim is to have as many people as possible representing all aspects of Parish life walking at least some part of the boundary on the same day. This will be a sponsored event, and each person walking is asked to raise sponsorship from friends, relatives and work colleagues. The proceeds are to be split between the Development fund for St. Thomas’ and much-needed general Parish finances.
This is not just about fundraising, but also for us to be seen out as a united body walking the boundary of the vast community which we serve.
In order to make the walk accessible to as many people as possible the route has been split into 5 stages of varying distances and difficulty. We anticipate that most people, from toddlers to the young at heart, will be able to complete some part of the walk.
This year we also have an alternative route known as “Margaret’s Route”, which roughly follows the Parish Boundary but uses minor roads to avoid steps, fields, brambles, sheep and cattle. We expect that this will be quite popular!
The whole walk is just under 10 miles, and should take around 5 hours to complete including breaks. There will be checkpoints at the end of each stage where walkers may join or leave the walk, many of which are close to main roads and public transport links.
Sponsor forms are available from both Churches and all 3 schools. If you are not able to take part in the walk please sponsor someone who is walking.
We need:-
Checkpoint Marshals – 6, with mobile phone & transport.
Walking Marshals – 8, including some trained first-aiders if possible. 4 of these walking marshals will be responsible for walkers using “Margaret’s Route”.
Walkers – 200, all ages and abilities welcome. Children to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Sponsors - millions!
