Newsletter 1st April

Leesfield Parish – 1st April 2018

Happy Easter to everyone! Today a group of children will be admitted to Communion at each church. Please support them and pray for them.
The Parish Confirmation Service is on July 15th at St Thomas. If you haven’t been confirmed please think seriously about it. Minimum age is Year 6 and there is no upper age limit! I am particularly keen to encourage adults who are regular attenders at church and who have not been confirmed to consider taking this step this year. Preparation sessions will take place after Easter, so please let me know if you are interested. Expressions of interest are not a commitment!  Edith

Youth church starts next Sunday, 8th April at St Thomas’ in the Community room, at the same time as Sunday School. It is for those children over Sunday School age (years 7 to 9), and will generally take place fortnightly. Rebecca Ashton will be leading the group, which will cover material based on the Gospel for the day in a way that is accessible for this age group, with plenty of scope for discussion. Anyone in this age group is welcome. More information is available from Edith or Rebecca.

Ladies of Leesfield – The Ladies are having a coffee morning on Saturday 7th April at 52 Spring Lane, Lees, and on Thursday 12th April there will be a Celebration of Lady Day at 7.30 pm in St Thomas’ Community Room.

Harvest Queen – Harvest Queen Ella and her Retinue invite you to their Harry Potter Family Fun Evening in St Thomas’ school hall from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday 21st April – please see poster for full details.

Rose Queen – The new Rose Queen Ella Spence will be crowned at St Agnes’ on Saturday 12th May, and on the following Saturday the 19th Ella and her retinue are hosting a Royal Wedding Tea Party. Tickets are now available from the Rose Queen and retinue mums.

Important Parish Meetings – Next Sunday, the 8th April, there will be a full PCC meeting to approve the parish financial accounts for 2017. All PCC members from both churches should attend this meeting, which will take place at 12.15 pm after the service at St Thomas’.

The APCM (Annual Parochial Church Meeting) will be on Sunday 22nd April, after a 10 am Parish Service at St Thomas’. This meeting is open to the public, but to vote in elections of Churchwardens and members of the PCC, or to be nominated as a candidate , you will need to be on the Electoral Roll of Leesfield Parish.

Anyone who lives in the parish or regularly attends either church is eligible for inclusion on the Electoral Roll. If you’re unsure whether you are already on the roll there is a list displayed at each church, and forms are available so that you can be included.

Nominations are invited for Churchwardens and PCC members, and nomination forms are available at both churches. It is essential that we have the forms correctly completed as they contain important declarations that the applicant consents to serve and is not disqualified under Church Representation Rules.

St Thomas’ church is open regularly on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, so people can drop in, look around, pray or just sit. For this to happen, we need volunteers to sit in church. Can you spare an hour now and again? See Edith or sign the list please.

Items for the newsletter, website and facebook pages to Liz (lizzy.dent@googlemail.com) whenever you want to send. Lots of lovely pictures please!
