Leesfield Parish 18th March 2018

Leesfield Parish – 18th March 2018
The Ladies of Leesfield Easter Stall closes today so please choose your gifts after the service.

Donations for Easter flowers to Audrey or Lesley please. After Lent has ended it’s lovely to see a beautiful display of fresh flowers in church on Easter Sunday.

The final Churches Together in Lees and District Lent Meeting for this year is on Tuesday, 12 noon at Zion Methodist Church, with a simple lunch of soup and bread served afterwards. This year we will focus on the film ‘The Theory of Everything’ using the Lent course book ‘The Mystery of Everything’.

Harvest Queen events – The judging of the children’s Easter Bake Off will take place after next Sunday’s service at St Thomas’, and cake will be on sale afterwards at £1 per slice.

There is also still time to Name the Duck, 50p per guess and the winner gets to keep the duck!

Advance notice – on Saturday 21st April everyone is invited to a Harry Potter evening in St Thomas’ school hall – please see poster for full details.

Next Sunday is Palm Sunday, with services at the usual times in both churches. Please join us as we celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. All of the Holy Week and Easter services are on the list of dates, so please do try to attend at least one extra service on this, the most important week in the church calendar.

The Parish Confirmation Service is on July 15th at St Thomas. If you haven’t been confirmed please think seriously about it. Minimum age is Year 6 and there is no upper age limit! I am particularly keen to encourage adults who are regular attenders at church and who have not been confirmed to consider taking this step this year. Preparation sessions will take place after Easter, but if you let me know as soon as possible if you are interested I will try to arrange the times of the sessions to suit everyone. Expressions of interest are not a commitment!  Edith

Youth church - After Easter a new group will start for those children over Sunday School age (years 7 to 9). This will take place at the same time as Sunday School at St Thomas’, in the Community room and will be led by Rebecca Ashton. It will generally take place fortnightly. The material that will be covered will be based on the Gospel for the day – but will be covered in a way that is more accessible for this age group, with plenty of scope for discussion. The first session will be on April 8th. Anyone in this age group is welcome. More information from Edith or from Rebecca.

St Thomas’ church is open regularly on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, so people can drop in, look around, pray or just sit. For this to happen, we need volunteers to sit in church. Can you spare an hour now and again? See Edith or sign the list please.

Items for the newsletter, website and facebook pages to Liz (lizzy.dent@googlemail.com) whenever you want to send. Lots of lovely pictures please!
