Confirmation preparation sessions will begin on May 11th
(adults) May 12th (children). If you are thinking about confirmation
this year please give your name to Ruth or Edith. There is an information sheet
with all the dates – ask Ruth or Edith for one of these.
Next Sunday (24th)
we have our Annual Parish Meeting at
St Thomas’ Church after the (shortened) parish service. This is a very
important meeting open to all the adults who attend our churches. We will elect
wardens and deputy wardens and members of our PCC, and will review the past
year. Please do your best to attend. Note There will be no service at St Agnes
on the 24th.
On St
George's Day Saturday 23rd April, 10 Churches in the Rochdale Branch of the
Lancashire Association of Change Ringers will be participating in a "Rolling Ring" throughout the
day. One Church will start as soon as the previous one finishes, and we will be
ringing at Leesfield from 1.30 to 2 pm.
The date is
particularly significant to us here at St. Thomas’ Church. Not only is it just
2 days after the Queen’s 90th birthday, it is 1 day before the 150th
Anniversary of the first time our bells were rung, on the 24th April
1866. The bells and clock were
officially opened on the 25th May 1866, and more details will follow
of our celebrations of the 150th Anniversary shortly. Please listen
out for us if you’re around the village next Saturday.
Tickets
are now on sale for the Big Band Gala
Night on the 2nd July. £10 adults, £5 children (although probably only
suitable for older children}, includes buffet supper. From the 20th April any
tickets remaining will be made available through "Churches Together",
and later to the general public, so to avoid disappointment it's best to buy
your tickets early. There will only be 120 tickets in total because of the
seating capacity at St. Edward's Hall, so if you are unable to come because of
other commitments please don't buy a ticket as we would love to have a
"full house" on the night. However, if you wish to support the event
in another way, donations of cash or raffle prizes will be gratefully received.
Our
next textile collection is Tuesday 19thth April at 9am
so if you haven’t already started collecting why not declutter over the Easter
holidays and ask your family and friends too. Just a reminder that towels
or bedding are no longer accepted, however local charity shops are more than
happy to take them J Duvets and pillows should be recycled at Clothing Banks or
the local tip. Shoes are one of the best to bag up as they weigh heavy
but please don’t send in bags full of bric-a-bric as any bags with unacceptable
items are deducted from our total weight. Thank you so much for your
continued support our Textile Collections, keep decluttering J If you
have bags which need collecting please see Karen.
