Leesfield Parish December 25th 2016

Thank you to everyone who made the Carol service so enjoyable – the choir, the readers, Paul and Warren. Thank you too to those who organized and served the refreshments afterwards. It was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion.
Thank you to those who organized the raffle – which raised around £250
Our carol singing on Monday was also very successful. We all enjoyed it. The children did an excellent job of collecting for the Booth Centre and of singing very tunefully and with great confidence. The adults sang well too of course, accompanied by Paul on his trumpet. The children collected over £95, which will be increased when we add the collection from the nativity.

Saturday 24th December Crib service/nativity 5pm St Thomas
And First Communion of Christmas 11.30pm
Sunday 25th December  Communion service at St Agnes  9.15am
Tuesday December 27th No 10am service at St Thomas
Sunday 1st January      Parish service at St Thomas 11am   No service at St Agnes

We have decided to make changes to the magazine. It has had the same format for many years and we feel it is rather outdated. The plan is that, from February, the magazine will be produced once every 2 months, and will be professionally printed in colour, with photographs. We hope this will make the magazine more attractive. It would be good if this can also be seen as an opportunity for more people to contribute to the magazine.
For example, short accounts (and photos) of Advent/Christmas at Leesfield would make interesting reading and perhaps encourage others to join in the various events next year.

We will be collecting items of warm clothing such as hats, scarves, gloves and socks to take down to the Booth Centre for the homeless in Manchester over the Christmas period. If you have any of these to spare or get some as Christmas presents you can't use these would be most welcome.
Also Cold Nights - Local charity which goes into Manchester to take food to people sleeping on the streets. They would like donations of pot noodles, porridge pots, crisps and chocolate. Their local drop off point is Limekiln Cafe by the Brownhill Visitor Centre in Uppermill so we could take donations up there. Chocolate bars are a particular treat, so if anyone has any such thing as an unwanted chocolate bar that would be greatly appreciated.

If any of our children or young people play a musical instrument, would they like to join a small group to play occasionally in church services? Please let Paul or Edith know if you might be interested.

Leesfield Parish December 18th 2016

We have our festival of Nine lessons and Carols this evening at 6.30pm. If you have been before you will know this is a very enjoyable evening. If you haven’t been before, come along and see. There will be refreshments afterwards, and the parish raffle will be drawn.
Raffle tickets are still available  £1 each.

Tomorrow we gather at St Thomas’ at 6pm to go carol singing round the parish. Do come and join us – it’s much better if we have a big group, and a perfect singing voice is not necessary. We collect for the Booth Centre in Manchester.

Donations are needed, please, towards Christmas flowers for St Thomas – to Audrey please.

Services as usual next Sunday morning. Then at 6.30pm we have our carol service. People who usually come know that this is a very enjoyable event. If you haven’t been before do come along and hear again the readings and join in the carol singing. This will be followed by refreshments and the drawing of the raffle.

Leesfield Parish November 27th 2016

Today is Advent Sunday. Christingle service at St Thomas’ at 3pm. Bring an orange and we’ll make Christingles (and sing!) Collection in aid of the Children’s Society. If you can’t come please would you leave a donation in the plate at the back of church in the morning?

Four years from the beginning of the LAST project at St Thomas we have got the last piece of the jigsaw. A generous donation allowed us to bid for tables from a church that is closing. They are of good quality and are of 2 different sizes which will give flexibility. Many thanks to that anonymous donor, to Lesley for her organization and those involved in moving them here on a day when the weather made things extra difficult!

Our parish Christmas raffle will be drawn after the carol service on the 18th December. First prize will be a hamper, but we need a few other prizes. Tickets available now £1 each

Monday 28th PCC meet at St Thomas 7pm  Please will all members read the circulated papers beforehand and do their best to attend.

Numbers at our Tuesday 10am service continue to grow. From this week and during the colder weather the service will be held in the community room (for warmth, comfort and easier access)

Saturday 3rd December church will be open from 1.30pm. Sponsored Christmas trees will be set up during the afternoon (have you booked yours yet?) There will be seasonal refreshments and a good social atmosphere. Do come along and join us whether you are having a tree or not. We will go round to the Lees lights switch on at 4.30, where there will be a band playing and a special red-coated visitor.

Leesfield Parish October 30th 2016

This afternoon we have a service for All Souls at St Thomas’ at 3.30pm. This is a short reflective service where we come together to remember our loved ones departed – no matter how long ago they died. There will be readings and hymns and an opportunity to light a candle for a loved one. The names of everyone for whom the clergy have conducted a funeral in the last 12 months will be read out, and if you attend, you are invited to add the names of your loved ones departed to the list. Everyone is of course welcome.

On the 5th of November we are invited to attend the School of Prayer in the Cathedral. This will be an interesting and inspiring event. A group of us are going to meet at Derker Tram stop just before 9am to travel together. You are welcome to join us –let me know if you need a lift to Derker! The event finishes late lunchtime.

On 6th November there is a Churches together service at Springhead Congregational  Church  at 3pm.  Title is For all the Saints. We will sing hymns, listen to some short talks and pray about 3 of the well-known saints. See poster in church for details.

Parish trip to York Christmas market will be on Saturday 19th November. Leave at 9am, returning 4.30pm. The cost is £15. Please Let Audrey, Roy or Vera Howarth know if you want to go.

Please would PCC members return their questionnaires to Edith as soon as possible – very few have been returned and we hope to discuss them at Standing committee on November 7th.
