News update 28th December

News update 28th December

Well done to all our Carol singers and collectors! Together we raised over £150 for the Booth Centre, which helps homeless people in Manchester. It would be great if we could gather together more items for them, such as hats, scarves, gloves, new socks, and toiletries, so when you're out shopping please buy a little something extra and bring it to church.

Tomorrow there will be no Sunday Schools, or service at St Agnes'. Instead we will have a Parish Eucharist, 10 am at St Thomas', where everyone is welcome.

Our Tuesday morning Communion will take place at 10 am as usual, but here will be no "Worship for all Generations" on Thursday.

News update 22nd December

News update Sunday 22nd December

As well as the usual Sunday morning Eucharist at both churches, this evening at 6.30 pm we have a traditional service of 9 Lessons and Carols at St Thomas' Church.

After the service there will be refreshments, and the raffle for our Christmas Hamper will be drawn.

Tuesday morning services will take place as usual at 10 am on both the 24th and 31st December, and St Thomas' will be open to visitors as usual until 1 pm.

The Sunday School Nativity and Crib Service will be at 5 pm on Christmas Eve at St Thomas'. Church will be open from 3.30 pm for pre-service hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies. Everyone is welcome to join us for this lovely family service.

Later, at 11.30 pm we celebrate the First Communion of Christmas at St Thomas', with readings, prayers and carols, and a Midnight Eucharist. Come and join us as we welcome the new-born King in the joy of Christmas morning.

On Christmas Day at 9.15 am there is a joyous Family Eucharist at St Agnes' - to which everybody is invited. If anyone from Lees needs a lift up to St Agnes' for this service please see Edith and we will arrange it.

There will be no “Worship for all Generations” this Thursday or on the 2nd January - we’ll be back on Thursday 9th January, 6.30 pm at St Thomas'.

St Thomas’ Church will be open on St Stephen’s Day, 26th December from 12 noon to 2 pm, so that anyone from the community who needs company, a brew and a biscuit, or just a bit of peace and quiet, can drop in. If you know of anybody who may be lonely please do tell them that we’re here.

There will be a Parish Eucharist, 10 am at St Thomas’ Church on Sunday the 29th December instead of the usual Sunday services and Sunday Schools

As you buy and receive gifts this Christmas please remember those less fortunate than we are. The parish supports several charities including the Booth Centre, Mustard Tree and Impact Community Church. They will be grateful for any Christmas donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, new socks and underwear, and warm clothing. There is very little that we can’t find a need for – so you bring it and we’ll sort it out!

Advance notice – The annual St Agnes’ Rose Queen White Hart Dinner Dance will be on Friday 20th March. This is a great opportunity to socialise and make new friends. Tickets are £35 each, and a deposit of £10 needs to be paid by the end of December to secure the booking.

Newsletter 15th December

Newsletter – 15th December 2019

Today we have the Toy Services at the usual times at both churches. If you can, please bring a toy in good condition so that a child who might not have any presents this Christmas will get something. The toys will be taken to the local women’s refuge on Monday morning.

This afternoon at 4 pm there is a special Advent TaizĂ© worship at St Thomas’. Please do take a little time away from the hustle and bustle of your Christmas preparations to attend this quiet, short and reflective service with candles, prayers and music.

This week is a week for Carol singing! We start on Monday by singing around the streets of Lees Village, taking Christmas out to people who may not be able to get out to church. Meet at St Thomas’ at 6 pm and wrap up warm!

If you prefer to sing carols in a warmer environment why not join the Ladies of Leesfield for Carols and Mince Pies in the Community Room at 7.30 pm on Thursday evening.

Then on Saturday afternoon from 1 pm we will be singing at Lees Co-op, where hopefully we will be joined by a few people from the other congregations of Churches Together in Lees and District.

Our Carol singing is great fun for all the family, and we collect money to support the Booth Centre for homeless people in Manchester so we need collectors as well as singers and musicians (small cute people do seem to be the best at this).

This Thursday is the final “Worship for all Generations” service of the year, 6.30 pm at St Thomas’. Everyone is most welcome to join us as we celebrate Christmas together, and we’ll be back on Thursday 9th January.

Tickets are now on sale for the Christmas Hamper Raffle, which will be drawn after the service of Nine Lessons and Carols on the 22nd December.

Times and details of all Christmas services in the parish can be found on the poster to the left. There are services at times to suit all of the family, and if anyone wants a lift up to St Agnes’ for the Christmas morning service please let Edith know and we will arrange it.

News update 8th December

News update 8th December

Today is the second Sunday in Advent, and St Agnes' Sunday School Christmas Party is at 11.30 am this afternoon.

The parish Christingle Service will be at St Thomas' Church, 3 pm this Sunday afternoon. This is a lovely service for all the family to enjoy, and all you need to bring is an orange. The collections from this service and the Nativity Service will be donated to the Children's Society.

Next Sunday will see the Toy Services at both churches, at the usual times. If you are able to bring a toy in good condition we will be pleased to pass it on to the local women's refuge for children who may not receive any presents this Christmas.

Then in the afternoon at 4 pm there will be Taize Worship at St Thomas' Church. During Advent we can be so caught up in the flurry of pre-Christmas activity that we forget to take some time out for prayer and reflection. This peaceful service with candles and music will help us to do just that.

The Rose Queen Dinner Dance at the White Hart will be on Friday 20th March 2020, and not on the 6th as previously stated. The tickets are priced at £35 each, and deposits of £10 are needed before the end of December.
